Shakas & Snatches, Brand Manager

January '14-March '15

As a founding member of Hawaii’s first active apparel company my main responsibility was establishing both the look and tone of the brand. Strategies were applied to create a compelling narrative with local, regional and national consumers. I also worked searching for, acquiring and managing brand ambassadors to serve as an extension of the brand.

 

Snowboard Colorado Magazine, Managing Editor

February '11-October '13

I oversaw the magazine from inception to circulation of 50k, plus subscriptions. Main responsibilities included setting the editorial calendar, writing/editing features, managing staff writers and photographers and creating/organizing monthly and annual events. Additional duties include: photographing features and other stories and developing a style guide that served as the look, tone and spirit of the publication.

 

Core Health Innovations

January '10-September '10

As the Creative Director I was responsible for all branding, strategy and communication for a growing supplement company. Main responsibilities included: establishing the company’s brand, message and finding a unique position in a crowded industry. As well as overseeing product labels, advertising campaigns (local/regional TV, website banners and fitness expos), media buying strategy, directing consumer testimonials and managing the company’s YouTube channel.

While I contributed writing and photography to front-of-the-book articles my main efforts centered around my expertise in hiking where I pitched, collected GPS data, took photos and wrote compelling stories for the hikes section of the magazine.

 

Uproar Hawaii Magazine, Staff Writer/Photographer

May '08-December '08

As a founding member of a regional MMA magazine my focus was on writing/photographing feature articles, covering regional fights, showcasing fighters and gyms and cultivating a forum that served as a sounding board for thousands of dedicated fans. My favorite task was shedding light on the truly unique stories that shaped the MMA landscape of Hawaii and it’s people. 

 

Surfing Magazine, Freelance Writer

May '07-September '07

My employment at Surfing Magazine was during an important time as the company switched publications and began branding itself as the industry’s most progressive magazine. I covered stories both national and international that composed of company spotlights, industry interviews, contest coverage and environmental issues. My biggest achievement was the coverage of a story in San Diego where a beloved professional surfer was slain.
